Service Birmingham Helps Council Scoop Excellence Award
Continuing a fantastic record so far, Birmingham City Council, supported by Service Birmingham has won the e-Government Excellence Award for Leadership and Professionalism for our work on Business Transformation.
The awards are the UK’s highest level commendation for the best e-Government and technology driven services and are run by the e-Government information resource PublicTechnology.net.
Winners of the awards are recognised as delivering services which, through innovative online tools or IT implementation, positively transform the lives of citizens, local communities, business and stakeholder groups.
Prime Minister the Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP joined the awards ceremony on Wednesday night via video link to praise the nominees. “I commend you all for your initiative, your drive and your commitment to providing the public with the very best.”
The award comes less than three months after CST - the first of the planned nine transformation programmes which are projected to realise around £1billion of combined savings over ten years - went live.
On hand to pick up our award were Stephen Hughes - Council Chief Executive, Steve Glaze –Head of the ICF, Glyn Evans – Assistant to the Chief Executive on Transformation and Mark Wyllie from Service Birmingham.
Cllr Paul Tilsley, Deputy Birmingham City Council Leader, whose portfolio includes Business Transformation, said: “Our transformation programme is one of the largest and most ambitious of its kind that has ever been undertaken – so to be honoured in this way is wonderful for all the staff involved.”
Helen O’Dea Chief Executive of Service Birmingham, commented “To win this prestigious award so early in our journey with Birmingham City Council is a spectacular achievement and re-confirms the excellent work by all on Business Transformation.”
Mark Wyllie added “This award is a powerful endorsement that the Business Transformation programme is already helping the council to make step changes in efficiency and effectiveness, thereby delivering tangible benefits to the council and citizens alike."
